The Listening Space

What is the Listening Space
The listening space is a unique project developed by The Connect Hut to provide a safe, confidential and empathic space for people undergoing distress to ventilate their feelings. Research suggests that receiving empathy enables clarity, relief, trust and self-confidence leading to resilience and healing. The modern-day world has brought forth its set of complications and challenges that are difficult to navigate through especially with a growing breakdown in communication and deep connections. Many of us have accepted that distress is a part of life but have very little in the way of understanding it and having coping skills to manage them. Empathic listening is the first step towards developing clarity in one’s own thoughts and build awareness of our feelings that lead to one being overwhelmed.
Through The Listening Space, we offer users to engage in the first step towards better emotional regulation by speaking with trained listeners. The focus of the listeners will be to provide a safe and non-judgemental space for ventilation of one’s problems and help the caller identify the emotional output of their circumstances.

Why a listening session and not a counselling session
We do not believe that empathic listening is a replacement for therapy. Infact, it acts as a support function for someone undergoing therapy to help in their journey. We also understand that many of us may not be seeking out a therapist at present and would like to first explore emotional ventilation either as a first step towards exploring mental health professionals or as a means to receive emotional support through a difficult period. Whatever your reason, it always helps to talk.
The listening associates are also trained to answer basic questions you may have regarding mental and emotional health and can even direct you to resources available. If we are unable to answer any query which does not involve specialised training, we will get back to you at the earliest over an email post the session.
